Claims arising from road traffic accidents

In recent years a variety of factors have led to a reduction in the number of serious injuries sustained in incidents on roads in the UK. Improved car design; traffic management and public education programmes have helped to ensure that our roads are much safer to use than they were 10 years ago.

Nevertheless, in 2009 24,690 people were seriously injured in road traffic accidents in the UK. Although the overall number of injuries fell it remains the case that pedestrians (including children), cyclists and motorcyclists were frequently the victims of serious accidents.

Fortunately for many of those injured there were swift recoveries and no long term problems. For the less fortunate their injuries caused long term disability and compromised their ability to complete education or remain in employment.
