Bradford Consultant jailed for manslaughter.

A hospital Consultant whose gross negligence led to the death of a young mother-of-two in West Yorkshire has been jailed for two years. Consultant urologist Sudhanshu Garg, 44, had admitted the charge earlier this year.

37-year-old Lisa Quinn was admitted to hospital on a Friday and her condition deteriorated over the Bank Holiday weekend. Vital opportunities to investigate and treat the infection and blockage were lost. An opportunity to transfer the patient to Leeds for emergency treatment was also missed.

Although Mrs Quinn finally underwent the crucial nephrostomy procedure on the Monday evening, she died shortly afterwards. Garg also falsified Mrs Quinn's medical records in a deliberate attempt to cover his failures.

The judge said it was extremely rare for a doctor to be convicted of gross negligence manslaughter and that there was "a disturbing picture of a failure to take action" and that "the overwhelming probability is that she could have survived".
