Compensation for caesarian complications.

A woman who suffered complications as a result of a caesarian section has recovered compensation of  £17,000 from a hospital Trust. The woman suffered damage to her ureter during the procedure. Although this complication is a risk in some deliveries, the damage was not prevented, identified or treated at the time. As a result the woman had to be readmitted to hospital for tests and surgery in the week after the delivery.

The baby, a boy, did not suffer any adverse effects during the caesarian. Kim Daniells of CNCI said "this was a deeply distressing event for our client. At a time that she should have been enjoying time with her baby she was in hospital undergoing further treatment. We are pleased that this case has been resolved and delighted that our client has made a good recovery".
