Advising with empathy and experience

CICA award for historic sexual abuse.

The CNCI team has helped a victim of historic sexual abuse to recover compensation through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).

The client sustained physical and psychological injuries over a sustained period at the hands of a male family friend whilst she was a minor.  She suffered severe psychological distress as a result of the abuse which manifested itself throughout her life in severe episodes of depression, dysfunctional relationships and anxiety.

Initially the client was too traumatised to report the abuse to the police or seek legal advice for several years.  On seeing an advertisement in a local newspaper, the client contacted the CNCI team for assistance. The CNCI team submitted an application to the CICA detailing the police charges which had been brought against the abuser, the injuries the client suffered and the effects of the injuries on her life.

After contacting the police to obtain further details of the abuse and ongoing prosecution, the CICA awarded the client compensation for the repeated incidents of sexual abuse against a child.

Speaking of the award, Emma Hudson of the CNCI team said: “There is no sum of money that compensate our client for the appalling abuse she suffered but we are pleased to be able to assist our client with achieving a result which will hopefully help her to move forward with her life.”
