Review into serious neglect at Welsh hospitals.

The Wales Health Minister, Mark Drakeford, has pledged that a review will be carried out into the serious neglect of an elderly patient at 2 hospitals.

The family of Lillian Williams from Porthcawl said she was left dehydrated.

She was admitted to the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital 4 times between August 2010 and November 2012 when she died.  The Health Board responsible for the hospitals – Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board says it has robust measures in place to deliver safe care.

Mark Drakeford met Ms Williams’ family earlier this month and a subsequent letter indicated that an independent review would cover a number of issues.  He also says that the review by Cynon Valley MP, Anne Clwyd, of complaint procedures in the NHS and England will be used to inform any work to improve the way complaints are handled in Wales.
